“We shall not cease from exploration,

And the end of all our exploring,

Will be to arrive where we started,

And know the place for the first time.”

— T.S. Eliot

Dr Vivien Cumming is an award-winning documentary director and producer, and Nature-published climate scientist. After postdoctoral research at Harvard, Viv turned to storytelling through film to raise awareness of environmental and humanitarian issues and the importance of our connection with the natural world.

She produces films and campaigns for NGOs, scientists, brands, and the media, with clients including Earthrise Studio, Cambridge University, Oxford University, The Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest, UNICEF, and the International Ocean Discovery Program. Her films have been screened at BAFTA & BIFA qualifying film festivals, COP Climate Change conferences, and the UN, and her work has been published by the BBC and National Geographic. She was part of the Reclaim the Frame Filmonomics 7 cohort and is a BAFTA Connect member. She recently finished producing a feature-length documentary for Windfall Films and is developing a film about the campaign to grant Rights for Nature to Antarctica.

Viv is also a yoga teacher and personal development coach. Through her own personal journey, she has come to realise that the films she wants to make are those that come from somewhere deeper - sometimes the best ones arrive in dreams. In recent years, she has spent significant time with Indigenous communities around the world and seeks to use her work to amplify the voices of those who can teach us how to reconnect… with ourselves and with the natural world.
